Church Wide Needs

Welcome Ministries
Welcome Ministries extend a welcome to neighbors and newcomers, and brings those newcomers into true fellowship with our church. We are intentional about finding newcomers, listening to their stories, and connecting them to ministries and relationships in the church.
Positions Needed: Greeters at the front door, Ushers, Coffee Servers, Hospitality leaders and Special Events Servants for One Time Events to set up, serve and clean up.

Children & Youth
Knox Kids plays a big role in welcoming new families to our church and getting them connected, as well as introducing our kids to faith. Knox Youth are committed to walk with this generation as they wrestle with understanding their purpose and as they navigate an ever-changing culture.
Positions Needed: Teachers, Worship Leaders, Shepherds, Administrators/Managers, Early Childhood; Story Time outreach Support team; Youth volunteers, small group leaders, and teachers.

Prayer
Every Sunday we pray for newcomers and unbelievers to come to faith and get connected in our church family. Prayer groups and teachings on prayer provide opportunities for our church to grow in dependence on God, deepen their prayer lives and see the power of God through answered prayers.
Positions needed: We need prayer leaders who are humble and teachable. We need all kinds of people to respond to the areas of passion God has given them by praying with others for God's power in those ministries. No experience necessary. Join a prayer group and learn to pray by praying with others.

Our ministry is reaching newcomers and outsiders by warmly inviting our Chinese friends and neighbors to join our gatherings. We encourage and empower our members to actively reach out and invite their friends, neighbors, and community members to join our community groups and participate in a variety of church events.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style
People with any/all the gifts listed on our form would find a place in Chinese ministries. Passions for Internationals, who are University students, Families, Empty Nesters, elderly. Task/Structured or Unstructured Serving styles work best within our ministries.
Positions Needed
Community Group Leaders; Family Bible Study Leader; Sister Bible Study Leader; Spiritual Couples (Additional details are available upon request)

Community groups are where we can do life together as a church, whether studying the Bible, sharing prayer requests, or serving together. Our groups are geographical and relational outposts where both believers and those exploring the truths of Christianity can engage the body and claims of Christ.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style
People with communication, shepherding, intercession, counsel and servant gifts who are passionate about caring for families and singles. Task and People Unstructured serving styles work well in Community Groups
Positions Needed
We are primarily looking for new Leaders to organize groups and equip members to serve in their areas of gifts and passions; Apprentices willing to support existing leaders and prayer catalysts who call us to bring our praises and needs to God.

The Diaconate exists to minister to the concrete needs of those in crisis in our church and community (social, emotional, physical, financial, and spiritual). We partner with outside organizations, provide congregational care to our church, and help Knox members engage in mercy and justice ministries in our wider community.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style
Shepherds, Administrators, Servants and Helpers and Givers of time, talent and treasure who have a passion for elderly and poor would serve well in Diaconate sponsored ministries. Task and People-Structured servants would be most helpful in these ministries.
Positions Needed
We need folks who are willing to serve our community through the many opportunities described in our new booklet, “How to Serve our Church and Community.”
We also need more deacons who are willing to share the work of caring for our congregation and serving our community partners. If you’re interested in serving the congregation and community as a Deacon, we encourage you to join Knox’s Leadership Development Training to provide you with theological and practical training and help you discern your call. In the fall of 2024, Knox’s Vision team identified Gen Z as a priority for the church going forward, based both on congregational feedback and the rising number and importance of Gen Z in Washtenaw County. In the spring of 2025, Pastor David Brown hosted Vision Sunday, including a presentation on Gen Z, and many attendees indicated an interest in serving this generation.
A Gen Z Interest Group is advocating for Gen Z involvement in worship, teaching and in community groups. We also have a concrete opportunity this fall: to provide a meal at the Michigan Christian Student Center at U of M where we can connect students to our church.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style
Leaders, Worshippers, Communicators, Shepherds, Intercessors and Administrators with a passion for University students and Young Singles would help us build this ministry. Multiple serving styles provide support for Gen Z ministries.
Positions Needed
A catalytic leader with a passion for reaching people on campus and in young career tracks. We also seek coordinators and administrators, a visionary team and a prayer support team.

Men’s Ministries provides learning opportunities to equip people of all ages to serve God and be guided by his Word. Several different Bible Studies go on throughout the week. Occasional Men’s Breakfasts bring men together to build Christ-centered relationships.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style – Gifts of leadership, Administration and Counseling along with gifts of service makes this ministry work. Men with passions for university students, singles, families, empty nesters and de-churched would enhance this ministry. A variety of serving styles would be helpful.
Positions Needed – We are seeking younger men to lead along with men who are interested in executing hands-on tasks during events.

Knox commits almost a fifth of the church's budget to missions both overseas and local missionaries. Our Missions Committee, chaired by Blair Bailey, seeks to be a conduit for care, connection and support from Knox for the missionaries that we support, and helps make budget decisions about who we are supporting.

All Spiritual gifts needed: People with passion for evangelism, missions, campus ministry, unreached peoples would fit. All kinds of Serving styles are welcome.
Positions Needed
Beginning this academic year we plan to offer opportunities to serve that include:
Sending people for evangelism training and missions preparation to InterVarsity’s Urbana conference (late December) and to Serge's LEAP week in London in mid-summer.
Local opportunities to partner with Detroit Unleashed (working with youth in Detroit), Advance Ministries (one-to-one outreach particularly to Muslims), and Military Avenue VBS.
Short term mission trip to provide childcare for Serge's global conference early next summer.
We also seek people who will regularly pray for our missionaries, and host our missionaries
The committee welcomes people who have a heart for missions. You must be a member and approved by Session to officially join.

Moms Together seeks to be a place where women can come together to attain a deeper knowledge of God, His grace, His promises, His provisions, and His commandments in the context of family life and are intentional about pointing one another to Jesus — our shepherd who gently leads us in all truth. We welcome moms both from Knox and the greater community.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style
Shepherds who encourage, show hospitality, and care for people, who have a passion for Babies, Children, Families, Mothers. People / Structured serving styles are most helpful.
Positions Needed
We are interested in weekly childcare workers that would provide childcare to children from birth to age 5 from September 2025 through May 2026. Volunteers interested in serving as childcare workers should be nurturing, kind, patient and compassionate.

We support all of the events occurring on Sunday mornings - worship, children’s worship, and Christian education - by ensuring the building is ready to use and by being ready to handle any adverse events.

We need Shepherds and Administrators with a passion for people and causes Knox supports; It would be helpful to have people with medical abilities to respond to medical emergencies.
Positions needed:
We currently have a group of about 12 team members. We will always welcome more who are willing to serve behind-the-scenes.

Taking Time Together, aka “Triple T” is a welcoming ministry for people ages 55 and up. Newcomers and friends are welcome to join the Triple Ts at our monthly luncheons or special activities, September through May. We are planning a prayer focus especially for Knox and its ministries. Secondly, we encourage members to participate in Knox activities to get to know others better, especially cross generationally.

We need Shepherds and Administrators, Servants and Helpers who give themselves in hospitality and mercy toward one another. A passion for connecting seniors within the church with others who are engaged in prayer and mission. All kinds of serving styles work for us.
Positions needed:
Core team for planning and prayer – 3; Luncheon team for coordinating food, decorating, set-up, clean-up - 2

The Women’s Ministry at Knox seeks to welcome women into the church, connect women across generations, and build women up with biblical teaching and fellowship. We offer events such as Bible studies, arts and crafts, and women’s brunches.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style
Apostolic Leaders, Communicators, Shepherds, Intercessors, Administrators and Servants who are passionate about Singles, Families, Empty Nesters, and the elderly. People Structured and Task Structured serving styles are appreciated.
Positions Needed
Creative People for Publicity; Event planners willing to take over events; Musical people to lead worship.

Worship is mankind's full and faithful response to God's revealed character, purposes and activity. We seek to center God's voice and the gifts of his people as we worship so that by His Spirit, He might teach and inspire his people to respond to him completely- heart, soul, mind and strength- that Jesus might be magnified in our thoughts, words and deeds.
Gifts, Passions and Serving Style
The Worship Team is led by shepherds with mercy and leadership gifts. The team welcomes those with a strong desire to collaborate with others and those with the ability and willingness to improve with a commitment to timeliness.
Positions Needed
Skilled vocalists and instrumentalists with a high school level of music reading ability, and ability to follow a conductor. People with tech abilities in sound, projection and video; People able to read Scripture with appropriate life and to pray with authenticity.
