Our Winter CE Semester starts January 10th
Exploring the Theology of the Body -
Bob Lynn
The ancient Genesis text says that it is man and woman, male and female
- fully embodied and alive with the animating breath of God - who are the image
of God. It is man and woman in relationship together who are the image of God; it
is man and woman in bodies who are the image of God. What a remarkable truth! Our
flesh and blood natures are part of how we image God to the world. Join us as we
explore the Bible's theology of the body and such topics as: why is the body necessary
to being fully human, how does the body help define being male and female. what
is the connection between sexuality and spirituality, how does the body help define
sexual ethics and what is sex for anyway?
Membership Inquiry Class - Pastor Mike
Frison
Does commitment to Christ require a commitment to His body as it is expressed
here at Knox? Is membership in a church an important aspect of what it means to
be Christ’s follower? The Membership Inquiry Class will provide an opportunity for
reflection on these questions. An opportunity to become a member will be offered
upon completion of this course. To register, please contact the Knox Office at 734.761.5669
or frontdesk@knoxannarbor.org. Pre-registration is very important, as we will only
offer the class if we have sufficient participants.
The Shape of a Free Life - James
Paternoster
It took less time to get the people of God out of Egypt than to get
Egypt out of them. And God's purpose was not just a change of location and scenery,
but a new and abundant life. What can we learn about God's vision for human life
from the first words of instruction he both spoke and inscribed in stone? How do
the Scriptures unpack and illuminate God's founding instructions for a life in freedom?
What shape does life take when Jesus rescues and renews us? This class will combine
presentation, discussion, and recommended readings to explore and apply the Ten
Words as they give shape to our life in Christ.
You and M.E. and Us – Pursuing God’s
Mission together in God’s Multi-ethnic World - Team taught by Fred Bailey, Valerie
Johnson, Phil Wong, James Lopez, Sara Wolfgram, Telitha Bowens, Edy and Peisy Sulimin,
Bob Lynn & others
God’s concern for the nations (ethnicities) is a central emphasis
throughout the Bible. So is the church’s struggle with living out that concern.
Our world, our town(s) and our congregation are becoming increasingly diverse; what
is God doing in this and how does he want us to respond? One of the main roles of
culture is to enable its members to function well together; but its shared beliefs,
values and practices also mean culture tends strongly to divide and exclude all
who are in any way different. This is nowhere stronger in our society, world and
even churches than between ethnic groups. How can we as Christ following, culture
making world changers understand the biblical, historical and interethnic dynamics
that have brought us to where we are and that must be addressed to bring us forward,
under God, toward the biblical vision of “men and women discernibly from every tribe,
language, people and ethnicity worshipping and serving God together forever” (cf.
Revelation 5:9-10)? We will look at the panorama of Scripture, our national and
personal stories, current events and ethnic identity formation research. All along
the way we will together consider implications and applications for our personal
calling as a church and as individual members of it – both for our life together
as well as our calling as individuals and as a congregation to the world to which
God sends us as his redemptive agents to all nations (ethnicities – Matthew 28:18f).
